Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre, rebuilt, re-opened in June 2006. The 1st floor has wet market stalls, sundry and clothes shops. Food stalls are on the 2nd floor, and a carpark above that.
The open-air section of the food centre offers al-fresco dining. The landscaped roof-top carpark on the 3rd floor provides much needed convenience for drivers.

Show me on mapThis is my first entry for the popular Crystal Jade chain of dim sum and Chinese/Cantonese restaurants. I wouldn't normally want to add these type of outlets/restaurants here, but I've recently been coming here a few times and enjoying the food, so I thought I'd break with good ol'tradition and put this one in. To get an idea of what order, here's a hint: I never fail to order the crispy roast pork cubes (脆脾烧肉) which goes very well with the mustard sauce (drool now, you wasabi lovers). You can also get this same dish at the Red Star Restaurant which is at HDB block 54(or 53?) Upper Cross Street in Chin Swee Estate near Manhattan House. Another dish I tried (see photo) was the Deep Fried Prawn with Salted Egg Yolk and the roasted duck meat. All pretty decently prepared and cooked I must say. Advance reservation is advisable for Crytal Jade Toa Payoh - Tel: 6397-2383.

Show me on mapThis otherwise non-descript outlet (other than the bright lighting on the hanging racks of meats) is found in a corner HDB coffeeshop opposite the Serangoon Stadium / Swimming Complex. I am usually indifferent to roasted meat especially many so-called Hong Kong style ones. This stall, however, changed my mind and set the benchmark, not only for HongKong style roasts, but roast meat in general. If you've been eating red-coloured char siew (叉烧) then you won't know what you've been missing all this while until you savour the superbly done honeyed char siew (密汁叉烧 - mi zhi cha shao) from this shop. The other winners here are the crispy roasted pork (脆皮烧肉), roast duck and fried chicken. They'll take orders (a few days in advance) for roast pigs as well. Tel: 6283-3695. I had been patronising this stall for many years and realised that their roast meat is very nice especially roast duck and pi-pa duck , roast pig( may have to order one week in advance ) Furthermore , the seller is a auntie who will remember her customers likes and dislikes . I like the plum sauce and chilli sauce which goes well with the food.
